10 years of Studiofibre

Studiofibre celebrates ten years of creating bespoke, beautifully branded workplace and retail spaces for many of the world’s leading global brands...

1. MARY KATRANTZOU

November 2017: Studiofibre’s new retail division has created two creative and kaleidoscopic pop-up spaces for iconic fashion designer Mary Katrantzou: One within the Le Bon Marché, Paris (June 2017) and a second within the Designer Womenswear Department of Selfridges London for the Christmas season.

                                                                                    2.MADE.COM & HEALS

                                                                                      at THE MAILBOX

November 2017: Studiofibre’s retail team was commissioned by Milligan Retail to create a 20,000 square foot retail flagship to house Heals, MADE.COM and other leading homewards designers. We created a flexible ‘stage set’ grid, allowing each brand to hang its own scenery and be the protagonist of its allocated space.

 3. CHAOS

November 2017: Following the success of the original pop-up shops we created for cult luxury accessories brand Chaos in Selfridges and Dover Street Market, we have now completed a third project in the Selfridges Accessories Hall. This bijoux space reflects the sophisticated playfulness of the brand and provides space for customers to sit whilst discussing the personalisation service that is key to the brand.

                                                                      4. THE GARNERED

October 2017: Studiofibre designed a pop-up shop for The Garnered within the Landmark Hotel, Hong Kong. The design narrative reflected the brand’s ‘journey of discovery’ essence, allowing shoppers to discover and experience first-hand how some of the world’s finest artisan fashion, craft and design goods are crafted.

5. BRAINSMART

2017: Studiofibre started collaborating with Marcus Conyers of BrainSMART.org, a doctoral researcher specialising in educational, cognitive and brain science research. Together we advise brands on how to optimise their spaces in order to maximise their two key assets: Their brand and their brains(workforce).

6. FARFETCH

2018: Studiofibre is proud to have been the global design partner for Farfetch since 2015. Current projects include creating new regional head offices for pioneering luxury fashion brand Farfetch in LA and Tokyo. Other work includes adapting their London HQ (created by Studiofibre in 2016) to accommodate their exponential growth and the introduction of new ‘neighbourhood’ style working areas.

7. WME | IMG

2017: Studiofibre created a deconstructed ‘nexus tree’ as a focal point at the London HQ of WME |IMG, the global marketing powerhouse at the nexus of entertainment, sports and fashion. Oversized triangular shards of beech, finished in different shades, are carefully positioned to create a 3D effect and an illusion of movement.

8. THE 'SPEAKEASY' PHONE BOOTH

Jan 2018: Ian Livingston, Co-Founder of Studiofibre, has designed a modern Phone Booth which celebrates the use of plywood, (traditionally a back of house material) and provides a stylish and practical solution to lack of privacy in open-plan offices for important calls. Farfetch has placed an order for their global network of offices, and the Phone Booths are available to purchase by special order from Studiofibre.

9. LUXURY BRIEFING EDITORIAL

2017: Fiona Livingston, Co-Founder of Studiofibre, was profiled by Luxury Briefing Magazine, sharing her thoughts as a ‘Digital Thinker’ on the importance of the human experience within today’s work and retail environments.

                                                                         10. WALPOLE

2017: Having completed design projects with many of the Walpole member brands over the years, we were honoured to be invited to join Walpole’s prestigious alliance of Britain’s best luxury brands.

Studiofibre creates 'precious specimen' inspired installation for Mary Katrantzou at Selfridges, London

Mary Katrantzou’s designs are showcased in a museum-inspired setting, including an exotic bird cage, echoing the Tring Museum displays which inspired her collection.

As the designer-makers behind the design of spaces for some of the fashion industry’s best-loved brands including The Net-A-Porter Group, Farfetch and Chaos, we are proud to have created a pop-up space within Selfridges, London for iconic fashion-designer Mary Katrantzou.

The pop-up runs from 20th November 2017 until 14th January 2018.

In 2017, Lord Rothschild commissioned Mary to work on a bespoke project for Waddesdon Manor, and she was given access to the Rothschild collection of creatures and plants housed at Tring Museum. The feathers, insects and other incredible specimens that Mary discovered there inspired her new Resort 2018 collection.

Studiofibre is renowned for creating experiential spaces which bring brands to life via beautiful design narratives and bespoke furniture. The brief from Mary Katrantzou was to create a pop-up installation, in a bijoux space within the Designer Womenswear Department at Selfridges (2nd Floor). The design had to echo Mary’s inspiration, embody the brand DNA and draw shoppers in to discover her exquisite colourful collections.

The sheer beauty of Mary Katrantzou’s extraordinary use of colour, luxurious fabrics, volume and proportion is showcased within a beautiful bird cage, presenting the creation as a curiosity in a collection: a precious specimen to be carefully preserved and enjoyed in perpetuity.

“It was wonderful to partner with Studiofibre to create our Mary Katrantzou pop-up space at Selfridges. Working closely with the team we designed a concept that brilliantly showcases the Resort 2018 collection in an elegant gilded cage inspired setting against a rich bespoke fabric upholstered backdrop.”

Birds decorate the structure, a nod to both the Tring collections and the fauna found in the grounds at Waddesdon Manor. Studiofibre covered the walls of the pop-up with Mary Katrantzou’s woven peacock feather textile – a fabric she created for one of the bespoke dresses for the Waddesdon Manor exhibition. This sumptuous backdrop is juxtaposed with key pieces from the Resort 2018 collection, resulting in a visually arresting kaleidoscopic cacophony of colour designed to catch the eye of visitors across the shop floor.

“At Studiofibre we are fascinated by colour, shape, texture and unique displays, so this project was perfect for us! We have successfully made a big impact in a small space and on a limited budget, providing a totally bespoke solution. It’s a pleasure to create a second pop-up for Mary and her team, following on from the success of the space we designed for her in the Bon Marché (Paris) earlier this year.”

Studiofibre creates op-art inspired pop-up shop for Mary Katrantzou in Le Bon Marché, Paris

State-of-the-art digitally printed vinyl floor invites shoppers to step into the colourful, graphic world of the iconic fashion designer.

Continuing our work designing spaces for some of the fashion industry’s best-loved brands including The Net-A-Porter Group, Farfetch, Chaos and Anya Hindmarch, we have created a pop-up space in the high end department store Le Bon Marché (Paris) for iconic fashion-designer Mary Katrantzou. The pop-up runs from 2nd June 2017 for six weeks at 24 Rue de Sèvres, 75007, Paris.

We specialise in creating experiential spaces which bring brands to life via beautiful design narratives and bespoke furniture, and we were presented with the ultimate challenge by Mary and her team: To design a high-impact, bijoux 150 square foot space to bring the brand to life with a cost effective scheme, and with just two weeks notice! The lack of any walls around the pop-up space presented an additional design challenge.

Ian & Fiona Livingston, the Co-Founders of Studiofibre, carefully analysed the Mary Katrantzou brand and drew inspiration from its DNA – the revolutionary digital prints for which Mary is renowned.

A sense of movement, luxurious textures, repeating graphic shapes and a rich colour palate characterise Mary Katrantzou’s collections. Studiofibre examined the archives and, in close collaboration with Mary and her team, settled on the iconic ‘Optic Flower’ – a strong, colourful design symbolic of Mary’s design ethos.

In the absence of any walls to form a focal point, Studiofibre decided to use the floor to maximum effect. A bespoke, digitally printed vinyl floor was commissioned and The Optic Flower was re-created as a repeating shape, enticing passing shoppers to literally step into Mary’s world. As practical as it is eye-catching, the floor is slip-resistant and durable.

Mary Katrantzou’s Spring / Summer 2017 collections are suspended above four interconnecting, colour-pop Optic Flowers, resulting in a spellbinding riot of colour, graphic patterns and an mesmerising illusion of movement.

Two bespoke flower shaped plinths, made from high-density foam and topped with gold acrylic, provide a central point for the Optic Flowers, displaying handbags and accessories.

“We are delighted to have Studiofibre on board as our design partners. What has been achieved, on a very tight timeframe, has taken the essence of the brand and brought it to life in a highly creative way. Hopefully this is the first of many projects we will be working on together.”

Mary Katrantzou

“This project allowed us to explore our obsession with shape, texture and abstract optical illusions and, on a personal level, the chance to work with one of my favourite designers! The various design challenges helped us focus on bringing Mary’s brand to life and making a big impact in a tiny space – not to mention a very tight timeframe! This project proves that big budgets are not always required for a beautifully branded bespoke space
– it’s about creative thinking, fast-team work and a solid understanding of the brand.”

Luxury Briefing feature interview with Studiofibre's Fiona Livingston

Luxury Briefing (Issue 196) talk to our co-founder & Creative Director, Fiona Livingston about Studiofibre's development over the last ten years, working with high-profile digital retail brands, our vision for the future, technology & inspiration.

"We design experiences — it doesn’t matter if it’s retail or workspace. Working with future shopping experiences, people understand that these barriers have dissolved."

Fiona Livingston, Studiofibre

"We see tech as an enabler rather than the star of the show.
Our viewpoint on it is that we are trying to create environments that are a little more human, so while we completely embrace technology, we like to make it more stealth."
